Have you ever wondered why some channels used to be shown on prime numbers om cable tv, while others in the last- containing lots of noise?
It all depended on the ‘carriage’ or ‘placement’ fees paid by each channel provider to cable providers.
Same is the case with DTH.
The channel numbers are determined on the basis of commercial terms-
1. In case of popular channels (eg. Sports channls), since carrying the channel is the requirement of dth provider, dth providers have to pay a hefty fees to these channels. Channel number of such channels are a non-issue as they will be watched Irrespective of their number.
2. In case of new/ non-popular channels, dth providers charge a fees for carrying these channels. Higher the fees, more lucrative will be their channel number.
